Installation Guide
02-07 Jeep Liberty Steering Rack Bushings
2002-2007 Jeep Liberty
SuspensionModerate
Tools Needed
- 10mm, 13mm, 21mm sockets
- 24mm socket and 24mm wrench
- 12" extension
- 10mm wrench (for tie rod hex)
- Using a 10mm socket, remove the two power steering line brackets. (If equipped with a mechanical fan, removing it may help access.)
- Using a 13mm socket and 12" extension, remove the steering linkage bolt. You may need to turn the steering wheel to line up the socket.
- Using a 24mm socket on the bottom and 24mm wrench on top, remove the two large steering rack mounting bolts.
- Using a 13mm socket, remove the three bolts holding the front differential mount to the diff and move the mount aside.
- Remove the plastic oil drain catch with a 10mm socket (it is stubborn but it will come out).
- Using 21mm and 10mm wrenches, remove both tie rods from the knuckles (21mm on the nut, 10mm on the hex to keep the ball joint from spinning).
- Reposition the steering rack to access the bushings.
- Install all four polyurethane bushings dry — push them in until the flange touches the rack. Then grease the inside of each bushing and the bushing tubes with the supplied grease. Ensure the tube flange (wide part) faces down and press them in (it's a tight press fit).
- Reinstall everything in reverse order.
